By Mortz C. Ortigoza

DAGUPAN CITY – The sidewalk at Barangay Tapuac is abused by vehicle owners who have been wrongly parking there since time immemorial despite city getting high rating from the Department of Interior and Local Government on eradication of illegal structures and blockage along the roads.
The area in Burgos Extension where shops like vulcanizing services have become a magnet of vehicles like cars and motorized tricycles that avail of the services there.

In his 2019 State of the Nation Address, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Department of Interior & Local Government Secretary Eduardo M. Año to reclaim all public roads that are being used for private ends. The president added that the country loses P3.5 billion a day due to the Metro Manila traffic because of these obstructions and other traffic factors.

Bayambang opens ‘Paskong Disneyland’

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes

BAYAMBANG- One does not need to go to Hongkong (China) or in USA to feel the novelty of Disney characters. These characters could be seen at the town plaza of this town as it opened its “Paskong Disneyland sa Bayambang” on November 15.

Thousands of the townspeople and its nearby towns trooped at the town plaza to witness the opening of the “Disneyland” at 6:30 in the evening.

When the lights were on, people were mesmerized to see Mickey Mouse dancing with Belle at the beautiful castle, felt the cold breeze at Elsa’s tower with Elsa singing with the Lion King, Alladin with his magic carpet, and the train station and fountain area, which are influenced by Frozen and Little Mermaid, respectively.

EDITORIAL: Pangalagaan ang karapatan ng mga batang Filipino

Ang buwan ng Nobyembre ay idineklarang “ National Children’s Month” na naaayon sa Republic Act No. 10661 na may pamagat na “An Act Declaring the Month of November of Every Year as the National Children’s Month” na gumugunita rin sa Convention on the Rights of the Child na ipinasa ng United Nations General Assembly nuong November 20, 1989.

(more…)

MAGANES: Mental illness is real

Lately, a teenaged boy in Isabela hanged himself due to a spurned relationship with his girlfriend. Another Grade 10 teenaged girl in a school in Dagupan City tried to end her life by jumping from the 5th floor of the school building. She was saved by a schoolmate who caught her before she dropped on the pavement. In Villasis town, another girl ran and went to the second floor of a school and jumped. Good enough she did not die and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was treated.

These are but a few of suicidal incidents by young people in the country and the numbers are increasing. If the situation will not be given much attention, suicides among the youth will keep on rising, which will give rise to many questions such as, why did he or she end his or her life? What gives him or her the motivation to commit suicide? Are the parents at fault or even the schools they attend to? How about the spiritual aspect of life, does the church lack spiritual teachings that ending one’s life is a grave sin?

The World Health Organization (WHO) observed that in the last decade and a half alone, the suicide rate among males has increased by 0.7 percent, whereas the female suicide rate has gone up by 0.5 percent. Viewing the figure might not be that big but these are thousands of wasted lives annually. Why are suicide cases increasing each year? Is it because no one is willing to listen? Or, do they lack  the care and affection? (more…)
