Two cities, 21 towns to receive of SGLG performance award

ALAMINOS CITY  Two cities and 21 towns in this premiere province of Pangasinan are set to receive the 2019 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), which shows the commitment of the local government units to improve and sustain their performance on good governance.

This progressive city and San Carlos City are the two cities in the province declared declared recently by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to have passed the evaluation conducted by the said agency.

It is also the third straight SGLG award of this city after passing the DILG’s good local governance test this year.

Dagupan City and Urdaneta City did not make it this year.

The 21 towns in Pangasinan that passed the SGLG evaluation include Aguilar, Alcala, Anda, Asingan, Balungao, Basista, Bayambang, Bugallon, Calasiao, Infanta, Lingayen, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Mangatarem, Natividad, Rosales, San Manuel, San Quintin, Sta. Maria, Tayug and Urbiztondo.

SGLG award is the highest recognition given by DILG to local government units (LGUs) in their performance in the nine areas of local governance to include financial stability, heart compliance and responsiveness, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity program, programs for sustainable education, business friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace and order, environmental management, and tourism, culture and arts.

Aside from the plaques of recognition, the awardees are expected also to receive a  Performance Challenge Fund which would be used to finance the c various development projects of the LGUs.

The SGLG was launched by DILG in January 2014 to challenge LGUs to continue good governance practices while providing better services.

It originated from the Seal of Good Housekeeping program that was introduced in 2010.
