ROSALES- As part of the Youth Road Safety Summit Pangasinan Leg- an initiated activity of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), this town launched the Project CARS (Creating Advocates for Road Safety), which was attended by some 100 youth on October 18 at the Robert B. Estrella Memorial Stadium here.

Abono Partylist Rep. Conrado Estrella III, LTO Region 1 Director Teofilo “Jojo” Guadiz III, Mayor Susan Pagador-Casareno and the municipal officials led the launching activity that was appreciated by the participants.

Mayor Casareno lauded the LTO for bringing the project to her town saying that it is very timely due to many road accidents that usually involved the youth riding in their motorcycles.

“ These road accidents can be stopped if motorists are given the proper information on road safety,” Casareno said.

Rep. Estrella thanked the LTO and the participants for the said advocacy, which he said will make our roads safe through the observance of traffic rules as well as road safety measures.

“I believe that road crashes are preventable and that motorists should own up to their recklessness or neglect resulting to road crash. Laws like Motorcycle Helmet Act, Safety of Children Aboard Motorcycles, The Seatbelt Act of 1999, The anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act, Anti Distracted Driving act of 2016, The Road Speed Limiter Act of 2016, among others have frequently been violated thereby causing more road crashes,“ Estrella said.

LTO Director Guadiz said many motorists do not obey the laws, and that majority of casualties and injuries could have been prevented if not for drunk driving, distracted driving, speeding, or negligence by any of the drivers.

“This Project CARS of LTO seeks to ensure that road safety advocacy efforts are sustained through the continuous availability of manpower and other resources by turning all road users into road safety advocates,” Guadiz said.

A road safety seminar was also conducted during the said launching program.
