Fake cigarette factory hidden from residents’ view

BUGALLON– The structure where fake cigarettes were manufactured is in a hilly property, fenced by barbed wires, and is planted around with mango trees.

It is  far from the residential areas of Portic village in this agricultural town and its  massive gate is accessible through another property where a piggery, owned by  Danilo Q. Calugay is located.

Village chair Edilberto Orduna said the residents were surprised when the team from the National Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Internal Revenue arrived on the afternoon of November 28.

“We had no idea at all that such illegal factory exists near the piggery,” village chair Orduna said. (more…)

EDITORIAL: Pulitika ng pagbabago

Bawat sulok sa bansa, ang mga tao ay nagsusumigaw ng pagbabago sa larangan ng pulitika. Dito sa Pangasinan, ang hangarin ng pagbabago ay mababanaag sa pagpasok ng mga bagong mukha sa pulitika. Lahat sila ay nagsasabi ng pagbabago hindi lang sa pamamahala kundi pati na rin ng mga bagong adhikain sa pagpapaunlad ng pamayanan.

Sa mga magkakatunggali sa pulitika sa Pangasinan mula gobernador hanggang sa mga tatakbo sa Sangguniang Bayan at Panlungsod, bukam-bibig ang salitang pagbabago. Kahit na iyong mga dating nakaupong pulitiko, ito pa rin ang iwinawagayway sa lahat ng dako.

Tama lang na kailangan ng pagbabago sa larangan ng pulitika. Ngunit ano ba ang mga pamantayan sa mga isusulong na pagbabago? Suriin nating mabuti ang mga pulitikong nagsusulong ng pagbabago lalo na kung yong mga dating gawain pa rin ng pangangampanya ang isinusulong gaya ng pagsira sa katauhan ng mga katunggali, pagyurak sa sistema ng halalan, paggamit sa mga mahihirap na tao sa pamamagitan ng pagbili ng mga boto at pagkasuklam sa mga kalaban sa pulitika na kung minsan ay nauuwi sa patayan. Kailangang baguhin ang mga umiiral na salot sa halalan gaya ng mga nabanggit. (more…)

Fake Marlboro cigarettes and other brands, fake tax stamps of Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), five Chinese nationals and 23 workers allegedly from Visayas and Mindanao, cigarette manufacturing machines, and bundles of tobacco raw materials were discovered by the joint elements of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Dagupan City and BIR Regional Office when they raided an establishment in Portic village, Bugallon last November 28.

The raiding team was armed with three mission orders from the BIR-numbers 0498, 18092 and 497 against a certain Dong Calugay and John/Joan Does “to apprehend arrest and make seizure for violation of any penal law, rules and regulations administered by the Bureau of Internal Revenue and to implement the provisions of the NIRC of 1997, as amended specially Sec. 15, 171 and 172”.

Pangasinenses were surprised by the results of the raid as reported by GMA 7 through John Consulta as he narrated that the factory of fake cigarettes has been there for a long time, using a piggery as a front. Consulta also reported that a road was constructed leading to the factory where 200,000 sticks of Marlboro cigarettes and other cigarette brands could be manufactured in a day. These cigarettes were believed to have its markets in Region I, Region III and the National Capital Region (NCR). (more…)

Bolinao Mayor Celeste to continue ‘Kalinga sa Barangay’ in the 1st District

BOLINAO- Mayor Arnold “Noli” Celeste promised to continue the “Kalinga sa Barangay” Program of his brother, outgoing 1st District Rep. Jesus “Boying” Celeste, should he will win the congressional race in the May 13, 2019 elections.

“The‘Kalinga sa Barangay (care of villages) shall continue and be sustained so that the people in the District will continuously feel the Celeste’s brand of public service, which has been implemented for many years,” Celeste said.

The youngest of the Celeste brood, Mayor Celeste, now on his second term as local chief executive, decided to run for the congressional seat to continue his older brother’s programs and projects. (more…)

PANGASINAN FOURTH DISTRICT Alvin Fernandez runs for Congress

DAGUPAN CITY – Former City Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez decided to run for the seat in the fourth district of Pangasinan to make a stand and to offer the residents of the district a choice in the May 2019 election.

The son of the late City Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. also said  running will “give the incumbent congressmen a chance to show that he is worthy of people’s respect, love and support.”

 Fernandez said he did not the illusion that he could easily defeat the power and influence that has reigned in Pangasinan fourth district for more than 30 years.

“We only have the hope that the electorate will choose the best candidate for the responsibility, based on merits,” he said.

“We pray that we be given the chance to be heard, when the time comes,” Fernandez added. (more…)

 Mangaldan Mayor Bona Fe D. Parayno and her officials exchange pleasantries with Senator Loren Legarda after the awarding of the town with the 2018 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) held last November 6 at the Tent City of the Manila Hotel in Taguig City. Legarda and Senator Juan Edgardo M. Angara were the keynote speakers while Department of Interior & Local Government Secretary Eduardo M. Año was the welcoming speaker. Mangaldan under Mayor Parayno had been a perennial winner of the SGLG.

ORTIGOZA: Hit man squeals after mayor threatened him

I dropped by recently at the ritzy mansion of a first class town mayor in Northern Luzon since I did not  break bread with him for a long time.

I met there too some of his seasoned political leaders that spiked up and spiced our conversation about politics.


When I told them about the audacity of assassins murdering this year politicians like former La Union Congressman Eufranio Eriguel, Sudipen, La Union Mayor Alexander Buquing,Balaoan, La Union former mayor and incumbent Vice Mayor Alfred Concepcion, and former Bayambang, Pangasinan Councilor Levin N. Uy, the mayor told me about the aborted murder hatched against him.

He narrated that a year ago somebody called him that his perennial bitter rival, who supports a relative for the mayorship, wanted to assassinate him. (more…)
