CORTEZ: The Joy of Benjamin

Mama’s Message during the Internment Mass for Papa @ St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Church, December 26, 2018

brando-maso

The assassinated Sto. Tomas, Pangasinan vice mayoral bet Benjamin “Junjun” Okulto.

Amen.

NO FUN IN BORACAY.

Before we made our way to our seats on the plane, Layette said, “I wish they would bring it back. The vibe. You know, Boracay became known around the world because of its vibrancy. The liveliness. The fun. If they don’t or can’t bring it back, maybe we’ll go somewhere else next year.”

It was sad to hear. But I couldn’t blame her. I had just experienced the same. And I had been going to Boracay since the late-1980s. The changes were quite palpable.

Eto naman po ang ending ni Stella Arnaldo: Sensible measures are needed to keep Boracay’s environment pristine and sustainable. But please don’t kill the fun. Don’t kill the vibe. Don’t kill the island’s soul. Don’t remake Boracay into an island it never was with government’s overregulation.

MAGANES: Fake social media accounts

Now that election campaign for senatorial, congressional, partylists and local candidates is fast approaching, social media sites, particularly Facebook, are full of “fake accounts”. These fake accounts are being administered by loyalists of certain candidates that try to provide misinformation against other candidates. They, too, are hiding under fictitious names. They bash candidates on their posts and spew hatred against those handling media sites they don’t like.

vir

Lately, I was a victim of this kind of fake account. First, he ( I addressed him as he, since it is the gender posted in his account, but using a woman’s name) invited me to “friend” him at the Facebook. Sensing that it was an account that supports candidates who are not the ones I am supporting, I did not accept his invitation. This guy reached me out on  my Messenger account. He asked why I am posting lies against his favored candidates. He wrote also that his candidates will win no matter what others will say against them. I took it lightly. I did not answer for him to stop.

That guy was bullying me. For all I know, I have not posted anything against his favored candidates. For all I care too. I am concentrated on my posts for candidates that I am supporting. I do not even mention the names of other candidates who are pitted against my favored candidates for I believe that political campaigns must be leveled up. I don’t have time to bash or concoct lies just to make my favored candidates “saleable” to the voters. (more…)

REFUTE

Orduna

Former Bugallon Mayor Rodrigo Orduña  (left front row) and his older brother Bert Orduna, barangay chair of  Portic, Bugallon, refute the claim of the Espinos that Bert gave Danilo Calugay the permit to operate the C.L. DPWH opens P3.5M building

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

DAGUPAN CITY  – The Department of Public Works & Highway (DPWH) officially opened an almost P4 million, three- room edifice the government constructed for the village officials of Barangay Bonuan Binloc here.

According to the district’s DPWH Assistant Chief District Engineer Rebecca Zaratan,  the building of the project underwent three stages starting in early  2000s.

Engineer Zaratan said the second story is a conference hall while one of the rooms in the ground floor is for the day care center.

Barangay Bonuan Binloc Administrator Feliza Gonzales disclosed that her son Punong Barangay Jojo Gonzales intended the building for free for the residents hold weddings, baptisms, and other events.

Another official who asked for anonymity said the conference hall will also  be used as an evacuation center in case calamities like typhoon, flood, and others.

Zaratan said the construction of projects in the fourth and second congressional districts was smoothly implemented because of the supervision of Manuel.

Manuel replaced last March this year former Rodolfo Dion who retired after serving the DPWH for 41 years.

According to Dion there is roughly P1.5 billion projects primordially from the national departments and agencies intended for the one city and four towns district in central Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, DPWH Pangasinan Third Engineering Office District Engineer Simplicio Gonzales, whose office is based in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan, told this newspaper early this year that the district has P1 billion projects mostly from the national offices in this year, too.

Many of these infrastructure were intended for flood mitigation.
