The launching was participated in by Grab- accredited tricycle operators and drivers, notably 40 units of “Tuktuk” vehicles.

Guico said the Grab Trike is a project that aimed to address the exorbitant fare rates, choosy and arrogant tricycle drivers, and other complaints reaching his office.

“We have to protect the interest of the riding public,” Guico said.

He said that prior to the launching, a public hearing among the tricycle operators and drivers in the town.

Subsequently the Sangguniang Bayan headed by Vice Mayor Melicio Patague II granted him an authority to enter a memorandum of agreement with the Grab Taxi Holdings Pte. Ltd., or Grab.

“The tricycle drivers who are not into Grab are not affected by this project. They can continue with their operations and will follow the regulated fare rates, which is P20 for the first kilometer and P10 for each succeeding kilometers,” he said.

He also said that “Tuktuk” vehicles will charge P30 for the first kilometer and P10 for each succeeding kilometers.

The “Tuktuk” vehicle costs P180,000 per unit according to Mayor Guico.

To book a Grab Trike, Guico said, a passenger needs to download and open the Grab application available at Google Play Store then choose the “Grab tricycle icon” and input the promo icon.

“Once the ride is booked, passengers can contact the drivers to let them know their exact location and wait to be picked up and deliver to the desired destination,” Guico said.
