ALCALA- This agricultural town in eastern Pangasinan has found an alternative leader to serve the people – Engr. Reynaldo “Rene” Mencias who filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) for mayor last October 16 at the Comelec office here.

Mencias, who will be running under the Lakas-CMD Party which has a complete slate,  said he was offering self as an alternative option to select from as a leader for the marginalized people of the town.

“I served the government for 43 years and retired three years ago. There’s no retirement if you want to serve the people. This is my chance to continue the passion to serve the people,” he said.

Mencias, whose son former Mayor Ryan Paolo who served the town for one term as mayor, councilor and vice mayor, said he wanted to continue what his son had started as public servant.

“Pao will serve as our campaign manager. I hope the people in our town will see in us the sincerity and honesty to serve them. These are the two virtues that will lead the town to its heights. We offer a slate that is sincere and honest. Our slogan is ‘Mas Masigla na Alcala,’”Mencias said.

Mencias’ running mate is Amado Reyes as Vice Mayor. The candidates for councilor are Cesar “Prisil” Aguilar Sr., Benjamin “Amben” Aquino, Amado “Eddie” Bauzon, Danilo “Lagalag” Cabanayan, Elizabeth “Beth” Cabreros, Arturo “Art” Libot, Jorge Pabunan, and Marcelino Valdez.
