ALAMINOS CITY-In the observance of the 1st  Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW), this city was selected by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to host its S & T Caravan from September 18-21, 2018.

DOST Regional Director Armando Q. Ganal said the city was chosen as host this year not only for its tourist attractions like  the Hundred Islands National Park, but also for its continuing commitment in promoting Science and Technology like its engineered bamboo production and other industries.

It can be recalled that on September 4, DOST-Region 1 and the city government represented by Mayor Arthur F. Celeste have formally entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding the celebration, which will showcase technologies, products and services of the said agency.

Under the MOU, DOST Region 1 will provide appropriate S & T interventions in the areas of technology development, training, adoption, and commercialization with the corresponding technical and consultancy services needed. It will also develop the S & T capabilities of various sectors in the city and invite resource persons for the indicative activities to be undertaken during the caravan.

This year’s RSTW carries the theme: “Science for the People: Innovation for Collective Prosperity”.

Mayor Celeste expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the DOST for bringing the regional celebration to the city and in the whole province of Pangasinan.

“We will learn a lot from DOST which will help improve our awareness on the various science and technology initiatives and how it works for a betterment of every Filipino family,” Celeste said.

The 4-day event  includes S & T exhibits, various technology fora, trainings and lectures, workshop and S & T competitions.

DOST’s programs and projects will also be featured in the science interactive exhibits, film viewing and S & Trivia. There’s also the Mobile Planetarum, Clients’ Consultation with S & T Experts, RxBox Medical Asessment, the Pistay Pinassiriban, OneStore Bazar, free calibration services and a lot more.
