ORTIGOZA: P6 K  per voter for a P10 K monthly post

I met recently BIR Examiner X. Nope, we ain’t talked about the nitty-gritty of tax collection, but the rough and tumble politics of Barangay Z in town W, Pangasinan where he was one of the kingmakers and vote raisers whenever politicians seek his help.

When he saw my article on my blog, he corrected me that it was not P2,500 per voter given by a moneyed bet for the Punong Barangay (village chief) but it reached to almost P6,000 per head there.

“He was pitted with a seasoned village chief groomed by a mayor to be the president of the League of Barangays,” he stressed.

My source referred to a position we tritely call ABC President or a post that is equivalent to a town councilor. (more…)

Image result for one decade

MAGANES: Rigodon of leadership at the Senate

There’s now a new Senate President. Senator Tito Sotto of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) took over the reins of the Senate upon the endorsement of the majority of the senators. Senate President Koko Pimentel of PDP-Laban has relinquished his post without qualms and even endorsed Sotto as the new president.

With the new leadership at the Senate, we will expect also the new chairs of the various Senate Committees. Of course, Pimentel will be given committees to lead or be a member of. What’s amusing is that Sen. Migz Zubiri will take the helm of majority floor leader. Remember that Zubiri was unseated by Pimentel as a senator on August 3, 2011 due to the latter’s electoral protest. This means that in the Senate, there are no permanent leadership because of political alliances. (more…)

The SM story began in 1958 when founder Henry Sy, Sr. opened the first Shoemart store in downtown Manila, introducing exciting new merchandising and retailing concepts.  At that time, Mr. Sy, who has been honored as the Father of Philippine Retail by the Philippine Retailers Association, thought that if he could sell a pair of shoes to every Filipino, he could be a successful man.

Comelec suspends proclamation of barangay, SK candidates

DAGUPAN CITY – The Commission on Elections has suspended the proclamation of barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan candidates if they won, and suspends the effects of proclamation if they  have been proclaimed.

The Omnibus Orders issued by Comelec First Division cited strong evidence that material misrepresentation of their eligibility has been made in their certificates of candidacy.

The erring candidates are mostly candidates for SK positions and the violation are on eligibility as to age, Pangasinan Provincial Election Supervisor Marino Salas said.

He said there were at least 20 suspended candidates, but he sill has to be furnished with a complete list.

Initial list of the suspended candidates are Nelson Rabaja Jr. (SK chair) of Barangay Lauren, Umingan town), Ernesto Rabi Davila Jr. (SK kagawad of barangay Catablan, Urdaneta City), Mark Paulo Ysmael Barcase (Barangay Andangin, Mangatarem), Jimmy Leal Benitez ( SK kagawad, Salapingao, Dagupan City),  Edlyn Acosta Lucena (SK kagawad, Bantog, San Quintin).

Salas said there were no reports yet if the candidates won.

There are more suspended candidates, but Salas said the Omnibus Orders are directly given to the municipal election officers and he has not received copies of the orders yet.

DRONES AND ATV

Kap Perez

Siblings John Paul Rodas Perez, 23, and Jhe Rodas Perez, 19, who just won last May 14 polls the seat of the punong barangay (village chief) and the chairmanship of the Sangguniang Kabataan in Barangay Cabilocaan in Calasiao, Pangasinan, respectively, stand prominently at the platform of their All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to lead the motorcade of their slate and supporters just before the 2018 Barangay & Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE).
The village has 1,700 voters according to John Paul.
The two are children of San Manuel, Pangasinan Mayor Alain Jerico S. Perez. John Paul defeated seasoned Punong Barangay Cesar Legaspi in  most well- funded election campaign the village and probably the town ever witnessed.
Both candidates of the top village post used drones to spy on each other in their nine day campaign. MORTZ C. ORTIGOZA

Elected kap accuses rival of ignorance

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

DAGUPAN CITY – A newly elected barangay chairman here blamed the ignorance of his rival on how to run a village as based on laws.

Re-elected Lucao Punong Barangay (village chief) Marcelino Fernandez exposed the lack of knowledge of his lone opponent when the latter promised to the 4,700 voters that 50 percent of the budget yearly will be used to purchase a lot where a barangay hall will be erected, and the other 50 percent of the next year’s budget will be used for the construction of the edifice.

“He did not know how to govern a village,” Fernandez, who is the ex-officio councilor of this city, assailed rival Gerry Claveria. (more…)
