BALUNGAO- Under the scorching heat of the sun, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos untiringly joined the municipal officials led by Mayor Philipp Peralta during the grand parade of the town’s “Goat Festival” on March 21.

Her presence during the parade elicited admiration from the townspeople who painstakingly waited to shake hands with the charismatic Governor.

Amid claps and cheers, the townspeople and fiesta revelers, who lined up along the parade route, shouted “Marcos Pa Rin” as Governor Marcos gamely joined them in picture taking.

The governor is the first daughter of the late strongman President Ferdinand E. Marcos and Ilocos Norte Second District Rep. Imelda Marcos. She is the governor of Ilocos Norte for three terms after being representative of the 2nd district of Ilocos Norte.

She has been making rounds of visits in Pangasinan such as in Manaoag, San Nicolas, Mangatarem and San Carlos City wherein political kibitzers speculated that she’s eyeing a senatorial seat in 2019 elections.

During a press conference after the parade, Marcos said her decision to run for a senatorial seat will depend on the vice presidential electoral protest of her brother, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“If he will abandon his protest and run for senator, I will give way. But I think he will pursue his protest although the proceeding is slow-paced,” she said.

She also gave her opinion on “federalism” that is being pursued by the Duterte Administration.

“ Federalism is good for us especially in Region I as we could be able to manage our resources. Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan are rich provinces. However, I have doubts for poor provinces if they could manage their state operations,” she said.

She further said as of now the proposed federalism has no specific details yet.

After the press conference, Marcos joined the municipal officials and the reigning beauties in a short program where she extended her gratitude for the opportunity given to her to be a part of their celebration.

Marcos was also joined by Abono Partylist Chair Rosendo O. So, Rosales former Councilor and Vice Mayor Romeo Sim, Darwina Sampang, Executive Assistant of Vice Governor Ferdinand Calimlim, and Abono Partylist President Leny Flores.
