Kaya ayon.. rejected ng Commision on Appointments.
Guide the DSWD Field Offices (FOs) nationwide in the implementation of the Protective Services Program (PSP), particularly their treatment of referral letters from individuals, groups of individuals, or organization, including public officials whether national or local executives, legislators, members of the judiciary, or constitutional commission;
To ensure adherence to the decision of the Supreme Court which declared the PDAF unconstitutional and the Commission on Audit Memorandum;
To enhance the DSWD’s performance of its mandate as the government’s frontline agency in social protection;
To uphold the dignity of DSWD social workers and personnel involved in the implementation of the PSP, as well as ensure their physical safety; and
To promote the fair and equitable implementation of the PSP.
Sec. Taguiwalo explained that MC9 covers the implementation of PSP by all FOs and offices, bureaus, services, and units (OBSUs) that are, or in the future may be tasked to implement the PSP.

Dagupan mayor crows world-class features of new city

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

DAGUPAN CITY – The mayor of this burgeoning city bares the “Guideline for the Development of the Local – Pantal Tourism and Growth Center (LPTGC)” as contained in the Zoning Ordinance for 2015 to 2025.

Modern City landscape

PERSPECTIVE.  After the approval of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, for the Growth Center in Lucao-Pantal Areas, skyscrapers like in this photo would be constructed  by Ayala Project Estates, SM Properties, Megaworld Business Park, and others just like the  economic hubs in Iloilo City. Mayor Belen T. Fernandez told reporters during the Information Technology – Business Process Management Summit that after the approval of growth center  mammoth corporations on IT-BPM would be providing 5,000 direct jobs to the graduates of  colleges and universities.

On its race to world class commercial and governmental landscapes, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez cited  the documents she presented that the LPTGC is developed into two major zones. (more…)

MAGANES: Spare the innocents in the ‘Operation Tokhang’

What will be your feeling if you are an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and learned that your child has been killed by policemen due to the unrelenting war on illegal drugs by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Duterte administration? What will be your feeling if you know that your child is not even on the watchlist of drug users or pushers in your barangay and all of a sudden he is gone? Parents have only good intentions for their children why they have to work overseas. They want their children to have good education and prepare for their future.

I am not against the “Operation Tokhang” if only to eradicate the drug menace in the country. However, in carrying out this activity, police operations should be done in a manner that no innocent people will be victims by validating the “watchlist” provided by the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Badac). It’s but easy for police operatives to concoct stories that the victims of “Tokhang” have eluded arrest and engaged in a gun fight. How about if there are witnesses who will say otherwise?

I cried when I read the story of a Grade 11 boy in Caloocan City who was killed under the “Tokhang”. The boy has all the greatest dreams in his life, to be a policeman someday not thinking that his dreams would be taken away by policemen. (more…)

(more…)

Victims of anti-illegal drugs war in Dagupan

                 CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD?

By Yolanda Sotelo

(With the outrage over the recent killing of Kian delos Santos by policemen in Caloocan City during an anti-drug operation, we are revisiting the families of the victims of vigilante-like killings in Dagupan City,also during anti-drug operations.)

CRUEL. This was how Teresita Tiamson, mother of anti-illegal war victim Rowena Tiamson, described those involved in the “war.”

                                                          Danica Mae Garcia, 5

The place looks eerily the same as almost a year ago when five-year old Danica Mae Garcia was felled by bullets intended for her grandfather, Maximo.

Danica Mae’s grandmother Gemma, 51, waits for customers of the eatery infront of the house in barangay Mayombo in this city.

But gone were the laughter of Danica Mae and her cousins who were preparing for their afternoon classes in a nearby public school. They were behind the curtain that separates the dining cum living room from the “bathroom” where the children were either brushing their teeth or taking a bath.

Gone, too, was Maximo who was sitting in a wooden bed in the middle of the room on that fateful August 23, 2016. Maximo was in the police list of suspected drug pushers was the target of the gunmen who arrived at noon of the day. He was able to run to the back of the house and hid either in one of the houses or in the grassy area. The gunmen left. Maximo survived. (more…)

Grace Poe 1

TRIBUTE.  Sen. Grace Poe, joined by (from left) her aunt Elizabeth Poe, mother Susan Roces, son Brian Llamanzares and husband Neil Llamanzares, pays tribute to Fernando Poe, Jr. on his 78th birth anniversary at the Manila North Cemetery on Sunday, Aug. 20.

The Poe family expressed appreciation and gratitude especially to “die-hard” supporters who came from many places around the country for the unwavering support from the time FPJ was still the iconic movie star looked up to by many up to the present. (more…)
