The Calasiao PNP station will also receive a national award at Camp Crame later this month. Police Superintendent Charlie Umayam,  the town’s chief of police (COP), said a  memorandum was just released from the national headquarter that the Calasiao Municipal Police Station is an awardee as best police station  at the national level.

The awarding would be on July 31 in Camp Crame.

Umayam cited the collaboration between him and his policemen on choosing the best ideas to improve the quality of services  to the townspeople, as one of the reasons why the station got the award.

He said the station introduced programs to pursue Project Double Barrel when it was implemented in middle of last year by the national police.

Double Barrel or Tokhang is the Philippine National Police’s practical and realistic means of accelerating the drive against illegal drugs in affected barangays. This concept involves the conduct of house to house visitations to persuade suspected illegal drug personalities to stop their illegal activities.

The programs that catapulted the police station here for the national award, he said,  were consultation with the residents, Payo sa Pagbabago (Advice for Self-Change), Pawis sa Sambayanan (Sweat for the Community where zumba dances were introduced), and projects to reform narcotic dependents implemented in coordination with the Christian Associations.

Upon assumption as Officer-in-Charge of the station in October 6 last year, the COP immediately formulated his plans and programs in this town that were buttressed by catchy phrases and acronyms like Project P.N.P or Pawis Ng Pagbabago, Spiritual Counseling, Livelihood Programs, U.S.B or Ugnayan sa Barangay, Clustered Barangay Dialogues, and the creation of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

Umayam said the zumba activity which serves as one of the reformatory physical activities intended for surrenderers and residents were held every Saturday at seven in the morning.

He explained that this endeavor will form part of the PNP’s station weekly monitoring system for the surrenderers.

He said he shared the programs to other stations.

Early this month, Umayam received the Outstanding Senior Police Commissioned Officer award in the provincial level.

Presidential Proclamation No. 764 signed on January 24, 2005 declares the month of July every year as Police Community Relations Month. PCR Month celebration aims to develop closer interaction between the police and the community in handling peace and order concerns.
