URDANETA CITY- Pupils, parents and teachers of Anonas Elementary School here have all the reasons to smile and be happy after they received a two-storey with four classrooms from SM Prime through the SM Foundation, Inc. last June 23.

The turnover ceremonies was attended by Mayor Amadeo Gregorio “Bobom” Perez IV, SM Foundation’s Executive Director for Education Carmen Linda Atayde,  SM City Rosales Mall Manager Catherine Garcia, City Schools Superintendent Gloria Torres, Anonas village councilman Randy Pascua, PTA President Marites Pasion and School Principal Glenda Peralta.

The school building was blessed by Rev. Father Angelo Lopez.

Each classroom has blackboards, 50 armchairs, teacher’s tables with chairs, and toilet facilities.

“We have dreamed of new classrooms. Now that dream has became a reality. Thank you SM Foundation, these are big help to our school children. This will also serve as a community evacuation center during calamities,” school head Peralta said.

Both Mayor Perez and School Superintendent Torres expressed their thanks to SM Foundation Inc. and lauded its management for selecting the village as a beneficiary of its school building program.

On behalf of SM Foundation, Atayde, the Executive Director for Education, said SM was committed to help areas needing school buildings in support to the government’s efforts to reduce backlogs of classrooms all over the country.

“We are glad to be of help to the City of Urdaneta especially Anonas Elementary School. Love these facilities and ensure their maintenance,” Atayde said.

As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), SM Foundation, Inc. helps provide underprivileged children with better quality public education by donating fully furnished school buildings and classrooms in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).

DepEd identifies areas in need to help address the backlogs of classrooms in accordance with national requirements.

With the new and conducive environment for learning, children perform better in school and are more inspired to learn, while teachers become more effective.

At present, SM Foundation, Inc. has donated 81 school buildings with 252 classrooms nationwide.
