DAGUPAN CITY – Two villages of Urdaneta City that have been declared drug-free areas will be showcased during the 2nd State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo R. Duterte at the Batasang Pambansa Complex on July 24.

Pangasinan Provincial Team Leader Dexter Asayko of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) identified San Vicente and San Jose villages will be showcased in the SONA for Region I.

Asayko made the announcement during the KBP Forum Pangasinan Chapter held at Sonshine Radio station here last June 29.

He said each region in the country will have two villages to be showcased as “model barangays” of drug-free areas in the country.

Asayko said San Vicente village is where PDEA Director General Isidro Lapeña came from and San Jose village is the place of PDEA Deputy Director General for Administration Jesus A. Fajardo.

The said top officials of PDEA are from Pangasinan including PDEA Deputy Director General for Operations Ricardo C. Quinto who is from Lingayen town.

” San Vicente and San Jose villages of Urdaneta City have been selected owing to the statement of Director Lapeña that how can he clear other villages if his own village is not cleared of illegal drugs,” Asayko said.

On PDEA’s operation against illegal drugs, Asayko said  their office will conduct continuous monitoring of illegal drug surrenderers in cities, municipalities, towns and barangays in coordination with the Philippine National Police, local government units and barangay officials.

” Even a town, city or barangay has been declared as drug-free or drug-cleared areas, these will be monitored. Reports of concerned citizens will be acted upon, through proper evaluation and monitoring,” Asayko said.

When asked why only drug users and pushers are included as basis of drug-free areas without the high value targets (HVT), Asayko said they have yet to revalidate politicians and other personalities involved in illegal drugs.

” There will be follow through activities with the HVTs under the Oplan Tokhang,” he said.

Meanwhile, Asayko said that PDEA is still accepting applicants to become PDEA agents nationwide.

He said ten agents are needed in Region I.
