Drug pusher shot dead in an armed encounter

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes
MANGALDAN- A suspected drug pusher succumbed to death due to gunshot wounds after an armed encounter with the drug enforcement team of the town’s police station and elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Region I after a buy-bust operation at Guiguilonen village last April 27.
Police Superintendent Jeff E. Fanged, the town’s Chief of Police, identified the fatality as Dante Mones from Villasis town.
In his press release, Fanged said in a buy-bust operation, a poseur-buyer transacted with the victim to buy shabu worth P1,000 along the national highway in Guiguilonen village. However, the victim and an unknown male companion sensed  the presence of police operatives that prompted them to flee using a motorcycle.
Fanged also said that the operatives chased and pursued them and were cornered in Navaluan village here after Mones and his companion lost control of the motorcycle and fell on the ground.
Exchanges of gun fires between Mones and the operatives ensued where the former sustained multiple gun shot wounds, his companion managed to escape and evaded arrest.

MAGANES: Where’s the PNP cleansing?

 vir maganes
Last January this year, President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the leadership of Philippine National Police (PNP) to start the massive cleansing of the police officers in the organization. He ordered Police Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa to look into the scalawags  and rogue cops of PNP to clean its ranks. This was done after ranking PNP officials were involved in the ” tokhang for ransom” of a Korean national Jee Ich Joo.
Said order was carried out by Dela Rosa. More than 400 policemen with shadowy records were presented to President Duterte in Malacañang Palace. He directed that the policemen be deployed in a war-torn area in Basilan (Mindanao). Out of the 200 policemen that were to be deployed in the said area, only 54 showed up for deployment. Others claimed to have filed their retirement while others did not heed the call, albeit went on a sabbatical leave or on “absence without official leave” (AWOL). That was the last report I have read in the national dailies on the “PNP cleansing process”.
What happened to the perpetrators of the “tokhang for ransom”? They are now detained at Camp Crame and stripped of their ranks following investigations that there’s probable cause of the case or cases filed against then in Courts. The cleansing was a laudable action of the PNP after the institution was criticized on the presence of police scalawags who are either involved in criminal activities such as extortion, illegal gambling, peddling of illegal drugs, gun-for-hire, bribery, etc. These police officers who took their oaths to serve and protect are the ones who are sowing fears among the Filipinos.
It’s a pity that the cleansing has not been carried out in a massive fashion. There are those who are doing their criminal activities under the very noses of their superiors. Yet, nothing has been done to stop them. I always believe that not all policemen are rotten. There are “rotten eggs” inside the PNP like in all other government offices, and these “rotten eggs” should be removed for the other “good eggs” to shine and save the institution.

Villasis police play basketball with drug surrenderers

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes
VILLASIS- Police officers of this town play basketball games with drug surrenderers as a way of preventing from going back to their vices.
“The games are also a means for the drug surrenderers not to feel that they are not outcasts and for them to integrate in their communities. While they were victims of illegal drugs, these surrenderers need acceptance and understanding. They should not be condemned because of their pasts,” Police Senior Inspector Rodrigo G. Lubiano Jr. says.
Lubiano, the deputy chief of police here, led police officers in a basketball exhibition game with the drug surrenderers of San Blas village here on April 26 as part of the culmination of barangay fiesta.
It was a game well played showing the camaraderie of the drug surrenderers with that of the police officers of Villasis Police Station.

CORTEZ: Pangasinan: P20 million per day sa Jueteng!

“Is it any wonder then that Ang is making noise? Hindi siya ang mamamatay. Mamamatay ang illegal gambling niya.”  National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon.
So, PhP20 million per day din ba ang nilalaro ni Atong Ang per day?
