Pangasinan’s Fourth District Representative Christopher de Venecia donated educational materials for Day Care Centers in Dagupan City with proceeds from a fundraising activity he initiated through a theater show.IMG_5937-2TURN OVER. Pangasinan 4th district Rep. Christopher de De Venecia turns over educational materials for Dagupan City Day Care Centers.

On April 17, De Venecia handed over to Day Care workers monobloc tables, chairs, flash cards, first aid kits, learning materials, visual aids, among others. He was joined by Mayor Belen Fernandez and Councilor Marvin Fabia.
De Venecia said this was an initial response to the needs of day care centers he gathered during a consultation meeting with them in January.
“I really worked hard for this….I was really touched and sad when I learned about your needs and I told myself I have to provide a solution,” he said.
Due to scarce government funds, or the long process of procurement required by concerned agencies, De Venecia had to seek the help of friends, like his fellow congressmen, senators, artists who bought tickets for a theater show.
The stage play, titled Buwan at Baril, that starred Cherry Pie Picache, Jackie Lou Blanco, JC Santos, among others, narrated and dramatized the injustices or atrocities during the Marcos regime. It was shown on Feb. 28 at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani Center in Quezon City. It was directed by Andoy Ranay and written by Chris Millado.
De Venecia, a theater/stage play director before entering politics, solicited the help of his friends to buy tickets, with proceeds from the stage play benefiting Day Care Centers in Dagupan.
He said he helped the Day Care Centers and also his colleagues in theater  with this play.
“I have to go outside from my being congressman for (this) fundraiser. As a public servant, I have to do everything in my power to help you, that’s why I’m proud to share it with you because I really worked hard for this,” he told kids, parents and workers of Day Care Centers here during the simple turn-over rites.
Meanwhile, De Venecia said there are rehabilitation and construction of more day care centers in Dagupan, especially in populated areas, that are already in the pipeline.
He noted that some use their own house as day care centers to accommodate children eager to learn.
De Venecia also lauded Dagupan City government headed by Mayor Belen Fernandez for the grant of P4,000 each monthly honorarium to its Day Care workers.
He added that he is working on a Magna Carta for day care workers to ensure their rights would be respected and observed.
“We can really help our Day care center workers here,” he said.
De Venecia also said that plans are in place for training of Day Care workers based on a program he had read that is being implemented by The Philippine Star under Dr. Preciosa Soliven.
The training of Day Care workers is ongoing in Batangas, according to de Venecia, who is also a Young Star section editor of The Philippine Star.
The program, he said, prepares students to make them ready and perform excellently as they enter K12 because of the best quality of teaching of Day Care workers who undergo the training.
