Celeste awards winners of ‘cleanest, safest, greenest’ villages

ALAMINOS CITY- City Mayor Arthur F. Celeste lauded and thanked the barangay officials and their constituents not only for embracing the Hundred Islands Search for the Cleanest, Safest and Greenest Barangays Program but for recognizing the importance of the initiative for their families, community and the city 
Alaminos is the top tourist destination and the center for trade and commerce in western Pangasinan.
In the awarding ceremony during the Barangay Night held at the Don Leopoldo Sison Convention Center last March 20, Celeste also congratulated the winners and finalists in this year’s search.
He also thanked the search committee headed by Councilor Rufina J. Gabriel for the hard work and dedication in evaluating the villages.
This year’s top prize went Barangay Polo on its second consecutive year as the cleanest, safest and greenest barangay with P 35, 000 cash and a minor award in Best Plant Nursery.
Barangay Amangbangan, which won the first place two years ago was 2nd place followed by Barangay Baley-daan.
Councilor  Gabriel said fifteen villages made the final cut which was revalidated early this month for the final ranking.
“ I hope next year all the 39 barangays will make it to the finals and that our barangay officials and the residents will take extra efforts and commit themselves in making their place a more livable community,” she said.
Gabriel mentioned Barangay Balayang as this year’s biggest winner after being proclaimed the Most Improved Barangay and 4th runner up behind Barangay Tangcarang.
The search committee has also given special citations and cash incentives to all the finalists and Top 10 villages that include Maawi, Poblacion, Cabatuan, Bued, Sta. Maria, San Vicente, Bisocol, Tel-bang, Magsaysay, and Bolaney.
