DAGUPAN CITY- Former Speaker Jose De Venecia, former 4th District Rep. Gina Perez De Venecia, Jose “Joey” De Venecia III and 4th Dist. Rep. Christopher P. De Venecia have extended their condolences and sympathies to the family of Senator Letecia Ramos Shahani who passed away on March 20.
The elder De Venecia and wife Gina were traveling to Europe particularly Portugal, Spain and Morocco for speaking engagements when the news broke out that Shahani has already joined her Creator after a lingering illness at St. Luke’s Hospital in Taguig City.
” The late Senator Letecia Ramos Shahani is an outstanding leader of women in the Philippines and Asia and served the global community as Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations,” De Venecia said in his press statement released to media practitioners in Pangasinan.
He also said that at home, she served as a senator and Senate President Protempore following her earlier role as Deputy Foreign Minister and Ambassador to Romania and Australia.
De Venecia also recalled that the late Senator and her brother Fidel V. Ramos, then Deputy Chief of Staff, broke ranks from Martial Law of then President Ferdinand Marcos to ignite the People Power Revolution and launched Corazon Aquino to the Presidency and the restoration of Philippine Democracy.
“In the next six years (after the People Power Revolution), Fidel Ramos won the Presidency and created the beginnings of a modest Philippine economic miracle,” De Venecia further said.
