VILLASIS- Owing to its innovativeness and in carrying out relevant 21st Century library services for promoting early grade reading and mother tongue through its Bloom Corner, the Municipal Library here was awarded a plaque of distinction as a best-performing Beyond Access Philippines Star Libraries.
This was bared by Municipal Librarian designate Merly Sepnio Zambrano who attended the 4-day National Conference of Librarians held at Apo View Hotel, Davao City on March 14 to 17, where she received the award.
The conference theme was “The Emerging Libraries: Connect, Collaborate, and Build Strong Communities.”
” My efforts in improving the services of our municipal library were after all not futile. The award is an incentive of the work we have done. I thank Mayor (Nonato) Abrenica, Vice Mayor (Jesus Franco) Sison and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan for their support,” Zambrano said.
Aside from receiving the award in said conference, Zambrano was also tapped to share her experiences as municipal librarian with the topic “Public and School Librarians Working Together for a Common Good.”
” I shared with my fellow librarians the innovations we have undertaken in our municipal library particularly the promotion of mother tongue in coordination with schools in the municipality. We prepared reading materials not only for the pupils but also for the teachers,” she said.
It can be recalled that the refurbished municipal library here was formally opened on October 8, 2014.
It has Children’s Section where children could interact with one another, read books, write, conduct artworks and watch films.
Its e-Library is linked and interconnected with the National Library. It is also equipped with computer sets from e-Community Center for students’ use in their research activities.
