Dump trucks coming to Dagupan to help solve garbage woes
DAGUPAN CITY – Nine more garbage trucks are being purchased by the city government of Dagupan City to help solve the garbage problem in this central city.
Mayor Belen Fernandez said the dump trucks will be used in the waste management activities of the city on top of the three that are maintained after the city’s dumpsite in Barangay Bonuan Boquig was ordered closed because of environmental concerns.
“The 50-year old problem on garbage could not be solved overnight that is why we need the cooperation of everyone,” Fernandez said during a press conference.
Among the hindrances besetting the city in addressing the garbage woes include the lack of technical know-how or capability, absence of available land to use and the financial capacity, the mayor disclosed.
Fernandez said her administration is exerting all efforts to educate residents on waste segregation.
The additional dump trucks bought, she said, will collect only segregated garbage from the barangays with a day to be designated for the collection of plastics, a day for food wastes and another for non-biodegradable wastes.
Barangay captains from the 31 villages of the city earlier issued notices to every household in their areas to segregate wastes, otherwise, their garbages will not be collected, she added.
“Sa ngayon, mababa pa ang compliance but time will come that they will be used to it,” Fernandez said. (VHS/PIA-Pangasinan)
