DAGUPAN CITY – A Pangasinan congressman manifested to his colleagues his concern for the safety of the former driver and lover of Senator Leila de Lima.
DAYAN’S SAFETY. Pangasinan second district congressman Leopoldo Bataoil (2nd District) appeals to national police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa to take custody of Senator Leila de Lima’s arrested former driver and bodyguard who told a congressional hearing that he (Dayan) had personal knowledge about the eight million pesos given by dangerous drug lord Kerwin Espinosa to de Lima. Ronnie Dayan, charged for contempt of Congress for failure to attend its hearing, was arrested last November 22 at Sitio Bato, Barangay Lacong at San Gabriel town in La Union.
“Being the father of the second district, I feel that I am responsible for his safety including that of his family. And it is important that he is kept alive so that his testimony for whatever purposes is seen necessary be put to good use,” Representative Leopoldo Bataoil (2nd District, Pangasinan) stressed.
Dayan told the members of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights how he received eight millions pesos of narcotic monies from drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and how he slapped then Justice Secretary de Lima upon hearing she had promiscuous relationship with former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) motorcycle traffic enforcer’s Warren Cristobal.
“[N]agkakalabuan na kami ni ma’am. Kesyo hindi na daw kami masaya sa pagsasama namin, lagi kasing bangayan, at laging nag-aaway kami,” Dayan told the congressmen who relished the revelation.
“Kaya noong nabalitaan ko na ‘yung isang hagad niya, na ang pangalan ay Warren Cristobal, ang bagong boyfriend niya, parang nasampal ko siya nang bahagya si Ma’am. Sabi ko, ‘Uubusin mo yata kaming mga security mo,'” he continued.
In that committee hearing attended by Philippine National Police’s brass, Bataoil, a former police two- star general, appealed to PNP Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa to protect Dayan from any harm.
“Mr. Chair my manifestation is to ask for the assurance of our chief PNP General dela Rosa my constituent’s well-being assured of his safety even if he will not be accorded the WPP (Witness Protection Program) and if he decides to go home be set free of charges of whatever he should be kept safe by authorities especially with the PNP,” he added.
Dayan arrived at the Pangasinan’s police provincial office at 10:30 pm last Thursday. He and his family are now under the protective custody of PPO Director Senior Superintendent Ronald Lee.
