Police’s house searched, yielded shabu, firearms

VILLASIS- A police officer assigned in San Nicolas town is in hot water after his rented apartment was searched and yielded shabu and firearms last October 28 by Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Army (PA).
The police officer was identified as Police Officer 2 Benson Aguilar Mamerto who is renting an apartment at Alberto Rafanan’s Building in Puelay village here.
The search warrant dated October 27 was issued by Judge Ma. Ellen M. Aguilar of Regional Trial Court 70 of Burgos town for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Act.
The search was undertaken by the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) led by Police Superintendent Leoncio Senense, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operation Task Group (PAIDSOTG) led by Police Superintendent Jeff E. Fanged, Urdaneta City Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) led by Police Superintendent Marceliano A. Desamito, PPSC Tayug, Army, CIDG Pangasinan led by Police Senior Inspector Anastacio Sibayan and the Villasis Police Station led by Police Chief Inspector Norman T. Florentino.
Seized during the search were one hand grenade, four live ammunitions for Cal 9mm, one magazine assembly, one plastic straw, two disposable lighters, two packs of transparent plastic sachet and three plastic sachets containing white crystalline granules suspected to be shabu.
Mamerto was not in his apartment during the search which was witnessed by village chief Teofilo S. Salazar and other officials.
According to Florentino, Mamerto is known for his gun running activities including illegal drugs and gun for hire activities.
“He is under our high value target and Mamerto is believed to be the leader behind the Mamerto Group operating in Pangasinan,” Florentino said.
The confiscated items are under the custody of the Villasis Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.
Police said appropriate criminal charges against Mamerto will be filed in Court.
