SP declares Dagupan City under state of calamity

DAGUPAN CITY- The continuous downpour of rain caused by monsoon or “habagat” has prompted the Sangguniang Panlungsod here to declare the city under the state of calamity.
In its special session last August 17, Resolution No. 7072-2016 entitle ” Declaring State of Calamity in the Entire City of Dagupan due to the Occurrence of Monsoon Rains and Heavy Floods since August 12, 2016″, was passed to give way to Mayor Belen T. Fernadez and villages’ officials to use their calamity funds for relief operations and other calamity related operations.
Under the Local Government Code of 1991, 5% of the total budget or appropriations of local government units (LGUs) is reserved for ” calamity fund”.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Guillermo P. Vallejos and was supported by Councilors Jose Netu M. Tamayo, Alvin T. Coquia, Denis C. Canto, Nicanor D. Aquino, Marvin V. Fabia and Marcelino DS. Fernandez.
The six day continuous rains has flooded 15 villages in the city.
