Asingan Mayor calls for unity and sobriety

ASINGAN – Amid issues linking her to illegal drugs in this agricultural town in the sixth district of Pangasinan, Mayor Heidee Ganigan-Chua dared her critics to come out and face her even as she called for unity and sobriety among her town mates.
An emotional lady mayor delivered her privilege speech before the Sangguniang Bayan here during its session last August 17 and denied allegations that the poultry house in the town operated by her father is a shabu laboratory.
She said the poultry has 35,000 chicks with three workers and invited the members of the Sangguniang Bayan to visit the place.
“It is not a shabu laboratory. It is a poultry that was approved by the Sanggunian when my father entered into a contract growing with the San Miguel Corporation,” she said.
She further said her father is hospitalized because of the drug allegations.
It could be recalled that the illegal drug issue against Chua was used by her political opponents last election that even her husband Peter was dragged into it.
“The issue was used last election by my political opponents to smear my good name. I have only one intention for our town and that is to serve our people. My staff and I, including the members of the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) have undergone drug testing. I tested negative as I have not been using any substance like shabu and marijuana in my life,” she said even as she urged the SB members to do the same.
To her critics, Chua challenged them to come out and face her eye to eye.
” I don’t know who you are. Please stop spawning rumors on this illegal drugs as I will never dip my fingers on it. I abhorred illegal drugs. I will fight against it. This is a social problem besetting not only Asingan but the whole country,” she said.
