Malnutrition rate down in Pangasinan this year

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Malnutrition rate in Pangasinan this year is down to 1.74 percent as compared to 2.46 percent in 2015 based on the result of this year’s “Operation Timbang” (OT).
Dr. Anna Teresa de Guzman, provincial health officer, revealed this on Monday during the start of the Provincial Nutrition Month this July under the theme “First 1,000 days ni Baby Pangalagaan para sa Wastong Kinabukasan.”
The 1,000 days of the baby starts from conception by the mother up to the baby’s second birthday, she said.
Tagged as the five healthiest municipalities in Pangasinan based on the result of OT are San Jacinto, Santa Maria, Sual, Infanta and Basista.
De Guzman said they will also promote breastfeeding, saying it is the golden opportunity to give all the nutrients needed by the child.
During the Nutrition Month, health personnel will visit and speak at various radio stations to conduct information dissemination drive on proper nutrition.
