Nato Abrenica returns in Villasis
By Virgilio Sar. Maganes
VILLASIS- Comebacking Mayor Nonato S. Abrenica described the May 9 elections as both inspiring and frustrating.
” I am glad and happy that the Villasinians gave me another trust to handle the administration of the town for another three years, but frustrated as people are expecting more from the new leadership despite limited finances of the municipal government,” Abrenica said.
He said the mandate given to him was a manifestation of his wife and his brand of leadership that he started in 2001, which transformed the town to what it is today.
Abrenica, who ran for mayoralty this election will be replacing his incumbent wife Mayor Libradita Go-Abrenica, who decided not to seek re-election for her last term.
Abrenica of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) won by more or less 5,500 votes from his opponent incumbent Vice Mayor Paz Rafanan of the Liberal Party.
” I am sad, however, that Congressman (Mark) Cojuangco and his wife Kimi lost in their bids for governor and congressman, respectively. I have exerted my efforts to campaign for them but the people decided otherwise,” he said.
The husband and wife team of the Abrenicas were instrumental in the development of this town.
Prior to his mayorship in 2001, this town was touted as “the sleepy town of the 5th district” because it was a third class municipality.
Several years after under the helm of Abrenicas, it acquired a second class status, and then it became first class.
After Abrenica’s term ended in 2010, his wife Dita took over the mayorship and was supposed to run for her third term this 2016.
However, the two decided that the husband will run instead to continue their pending programs and projects in the town.
Among their projects are the wholesale (bagsakan) market, renovation of the municipal hall, renovation of the legislative building, renovation of the market place, improvement of the town’s plaza/Rizal Park, palay and corn drying facility, livelihood training center, and others.
Abrenica is also credited for institutionalizing the “Talong (Eggplant) Festival” under the “One Town, One Product” that was started in 2006.
Proclaimed winners by the town’s Commission on Election (Comelec) of the May 9 polls together with Abrenica are: Vice Mayor elect Franco A. Sison, Councilors elect Nicholi Jan Louie Q. Sison, Mario Cesar Racadio, Cheryll Tan, Centenielo Ramon R. Costales, Judith M. Morden, Domingo R. Rafanan, Richie Cacapit and Ferdinand Sison.
