Elderly couple accuses Sison of attempted murder

Urbiztondo Mayor Martin Raul Sison ll and three of his personnel face cases of attempted murder and grave threats filed by a market guard who claimed that the mayor threatened to kill him and his wife.
Bernabe dela Cruz Samson, 62, in affidavit submitted at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in San Carlos City on April 12, said the incident occured on April 7 when Sison allegedly collared, strangled and boxed him on different parts on his body.
Samson also claimed that Sison slammed his head against the seat’s backrest, and shouted at him, “Di ba sinabi ko na sa yo nuon na masama akong kaaway, papatayin kita! (I told you before I am a bad enemy. I will kill you!).
Sison allegedly repeated the threat to him and his wife Leonida later.
“Sison pulled my wife Leonida and my head head together, then slapped Leonida’s back, uttering the words, “ Hindi lang yan ang pwede kong gawin sa inyo! Papatayin ko kayo!”
“I told my wife not to speak and we just left,” Samson, a market night guard, said  in his affidavit.
Sison accused the husband and wife of campaigning for another mayoralty candidate, Mirla Balolong, the widow of the late mayor Ernesto Balolong who was gunned down in 2014.
Sison, then the vice mayor, took over the mayoralty post. He also accused Samson of campaigning for Mark Cojuangco who is running for governor.
Also included in the cases are Cesar Tinyente, Urbano de Vera and Gilbert Aviles who were with the mayor during the incident.
“We are just small people. We are afraid for our lives,” a tearful Leonida, who tends a store near the town’s cemetery, said.
He said the incident took place at the residence of Sison in Barangay Galarin, Urbiztondo.
In a press conference, Samson showed reporters parts of his body that blackened because of the punches. He also gave copy of the medico-legal certificate which noted the swelling on his right forearm and tenderness on his right scapular area.
He told reporters that since the medical test was right after the incident, his body did not manifest hematomas yet.
But another person also reported to the police contradicting Samson’s allegations.  A certain Mario Pascaran claimed it was a drunk Samson who went to the mayor’s house and tried to punch him.
But the guards held Samson so he was not able to hit Sison, who then allegedly told the guards to send Samson home as he was drunk.
In his affidavit,  Samson  said the market administrator called him up to tell him Sison wanted to see him in his house.
“I went there with my wife Leonida de Vera Samson. Mayor Sison told me we would talk at the backyard, and told my wife to stay  at the garage.
The two went to a bahay kubo at the backyard and there, Sison told one Bong Tinyente to call “Urbi” and “George.”
“When I saw Bong Tinyente, I got anxious,” Samson said, telling reporters that Tinyente was incharge of the municipal cemetery, a position he held before. He did not explain why he was afraid of Tinyente.
He said Sison asked him, “kasama ka ba?” or if he was a political ally.
“I told him I don’t want to get involved in politics and that it was better if I stayed neutral,” he said.
All the while, Samson pleaded with the mayor, saying he would not fight back. When he was already severely beaten, Tenyente told Sison to stop as he (Sison) has already sent the message.
The husband and wife already survived a shooting incident before Balolong was killed. Leonida was shot six times in different parts of her body, including her right arm which she could not longer move.
