DAGUPAN CITY – Deputized fish wardens of the city underwent one-day training on April 14 on the enforcement of the provisions of the City Fishery Ordinance and other pertinent laws at the Senior Citizen’s Recreational Center.

The training was facilitated in by the City Agriculture Office headed by Emma J. Molina along with the lecturers from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Fisheries Office 1.

The newly deputized fish wardens are with the City Agriculture Office, Bantay Ilog Task Force, City Treasurer’s Office-Market Division, Public Order and Safety Office, Philippine National Police-Dagupan, Philippine National Police-Maritime Group and the Philippine Coast Guard.

They were also oriented on the roles of a fish warden and on their new roles as resource conservation partners of the Dagupan city government; how to classify fishing boats and fishing gears; coastal resource management; detection of illegally caught fish; procedural aspect in the apprehension of fishery violators and filing of illegal fishing cases in court; arrest, search and seizure, preservation of evidence and Miranda Doctrine Rights and the grounds for the revocation of authority as deputy fish warden; and the provisions of the Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species.

Each of the deputized fish wardens underwent recognition test and practicum exercises before they graduated from their training.

Their training in line with Mayor Belen T. Fernandez’es sa “Ilog Ko May Pagbabago” program aims to restore the natural and pristine beauty  of the rivers. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/April 15, 2016)
