DAGUPAN CITY – More than 5,000 residents of Barangay Pugaro  will soon enjoy clean and  safe, potable water following the groundbreaking on April 1  of the  extension of the pipeline of the Dagupan City Water District (DCWD) to the barangay.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez along with DCWD Chairman Gonzalo T. Duque, Vice-Chairman Liberato “Ope” Reyna Jr., members of the Board Reveriana E. Guadiz and Engineer Robert Condrad A. Matias and the Pugaro Barangay Council led the laying of the time capsule marking of the start of the project.
Accordingly, the project cost is P1,468.989.20. The pipeline to be laid out is about 75 millimeters in diameter.
The project is expected to be in full operation after 120 days.
Residents of Pugaro said that their source of potable water comes from a deep well while others bear the burden of buying mineral water in the mainland.
Now they are glad that they will no longer worry on how to keep their children safe from gastroenteritis due to unclean water.
“This is part of our corporate social responsibility to bring our services to the remotest barangay and in following the request of Mayor Belen to provide the people of Pugaro with clean, safe potable water which has long been their dream,” said Duque.
He urged residents to watch over the pipelines so they will continue to enjoy the services of the water district.
Fernandez expressed hope that the project will open the floodgate for the development of the area as a tourist destination which will surely provide job and livelihood opportunities to the residence.
“We have big plans for Pugaro especially in making it as a tourist destination next to Tondaligan. The potential is huge because all kinds of fish species are here which makes it very ideal for attracting tourist aside from its pristine beach.
This is why along with Congresswoman Manay Gina De Venecia we constructed a new road in preparation for the possible influx of tourists,” said Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
