Philippine National Police Chief Police Director General Ricardo Marquez formalized last March 14 the promotion of Chief Supt. Marlou Chan to a star rank
Chan is presently the deputy police regional director for administration at the Police Regional Office-1 in San Fernando City, La Union.
The chief of the national police conferred five Senior Superintendents to a star rank during a simple ceremonies at the PNP Star-Officers’ Lounge in Camp Crame.
Those who were recipients of the promotions were Police Director Rene Diaz Ong (Directorate for Research and Development); Chan (PRO 1); PCSupt. Eusebio Adamero Mejos (NCRPO); PCSupt. Lurimer Barron Detran (Directorate for Comptrollership); and PCSupt. Aaron Nagtalon Aquino (PRO 10)
Marquez earlier designated Chan as commander of the regional special operations task group that would oversee the orderliness of the election in the region particularly the tense Pangasinan province.
The almost two millon vote – rich Pangasinan is the only province in Region 1 included in the list of election watch-list areas (EWAs) on account of recorded political violence in the 2010 and 2013 elections.
Chan was the acting police provincial director of Pangasinan in 2013.
In May of that year Governor Amado Espino asked the court to stop Marquez, then the regional police director, and Director Catalino Cuy, chief of the PNP Personnel and Records at Camp Crame, from appointing Chan and permanent provincial director.
Chan is a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Class of 1985.
