ASINGAN- Mayor Heidee Ganigan-Chua, who is seeking her last term on May 9 elections, said she is unperturbed by verbal attacks against her, saying the tirades are the handiwork of her opponent for the mayoralty seat – Emmanuel Sapigao
Chua was reacting to radio commentators based in Dagupan City who are insinuating that her town is home of drug addicts and drug pushers.
She said the attacks were designed to undermine her reelection bid.
” Asinganians know pretty well the character of my opponent as well as his slate for councilors. I am more focused on what to deliver to them than to give my time on these nasty attacks of my administration,” she said.
Chua was the center of tirades by radio broadcast paid for by the Espino camp for allegedly attempting to settle a case of her husband’s relative involved in illegal drugs while still in police custody.
“Why do I have to meddle when the case is about illegal drugs, a campaign against which is pursued by my administration? The suspect is now in prison at the District Jail in Urdaneta City, so what is there to settle for?” Chua said.
She said she or her husband never consented to any amicable settlement contrary to what was reported by the radio broadcasters.
” The police officers here are not lenient on their jobs. They are working hard, with my support, to make Asingan drug-free. We are pursuing an anti-drug campaign without letup,” she said.
Chua said she was sad that her opponents are capitalizing on the issue making it appear that the town is a haven of illegal drug trade.
“This is a desperate attempt to tarnish my reputation. Let them know that my administration is one of the top implementers of anti-drug campaign. Police records will attest to that,” she said.
