Villasis prepares for town fiesta in January

VILLASIS- This town is now preoccupied with the preparation of its annual fiesta celebration to be held on January 11 to 20. Mayor Libradita Go-Abrenica is the honorary chair of the executive committee and former mayor and 2016 mayoral candidate Nonato S. Abrenica is the executive chair.
Among the pre- town fiesta activities include the search for Mrs. Villasis 2016, a popularity contest with the last canvassing to be held on December 28 at the municipal covered auditorium.
There are four candidates vying for Mrs. Villasis 2016.
Mrs. Efelia Megallon Yasay of Puelay village represents the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) of Hongkong, Mrs. Estela Gadiaza Megino of Puelay village, an expatriate in Barcelona, Spain represents Europe, Mrs. Cleopatra Sanchez Roderos of Zone V, Poblacion village represents the local governments of Villasis and Mrs. Josephine Corpuz Agustin of Zone I, Poblacion village, an expatriate in Freemont , California, USA represents the West and Est Coasts of USA.
Mayor Abrenica said the candidates will be supported by various organizations, both local and overseas.
” We thanked these candidates and their families for giving themselves as candidates for the search of Mrs. Villasis 2016. We acknowledged their sacrifices and support for the sake of raising funds and providing merriment to our townspeople and visitors during the town fiesta celebration,” Mayor Abrenica said.
She said that this year’s fiesta celebration would be simple and austere as the fund raising campaign and proceeds of the Miss Villasis 2016 will be used for the renovation of the town’s gymnasium.
The 10-day fiesta celebration include the following activities:
On the first day, January 11 (Monday) will be a thanksgiving celebration with a Mass Zumba Competition held in the morning and the opening of Agri-Trade Fair. In the afternoon is the opening of Sportsfest at the gymnasium grounds.
On January 12 ( Tuesday) will be the Farmers’ Day featuring the “Palsiit Challenge” ( slingshot), an inter-high school and inter-agency basketball competitions and in the evening the Senior Citizens’ and Retirees’ Night.
January 13 (Wednesday) will be highlighted by Tanod Drill-Barangay Contest and Barangay Night.
On January 14 ( Thursday), the sports tournament continues and in the evening, the alumni of the defunct Pangasinan Central Colleges (PCC) converge to renew their bonding.
The much awaited “Talong Festival” will be staged on January 15 (Friday) featuring “Tarong Torta Tirada”, which will be aired over ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda, followed by Calisthenics Demonstration, cooking Pinakbet sa Kawa, Talong Cookfest Contest, Street Dancing Competition, Concert and Fireworks Display.
On January 16 ( Saturday), the revelers and the Villasinians will be treated with a Grand Parade after which the sports games will continue. In the evening, Mrs. Villasis 2016 will be crowned with the night of “balikbayans” or expatriates coming from various countries.
The Feast Day of Saint Anthony Abbot will be on January 17 (Sunday) with Christian activities like confirmation and baptisms. “Fiestaray”, a fun-run of Don Ramon E. Costales Memorial National High School (DRECMNHS) and Mountain Bike Challenge will also be conducted, followed by sports competition in the afternoon. In the evening will be the DRECMNHS Alumni Homecoming.
On January 18 ( Monday), basketball and volleyball exhibition will be conducted. At night will be the Gay Night featuring ” Ka-Fez mo….Sing Mo o Acting Mo.”
Basketball and volleyball exhibitions continue on January 19 with Yugyugan Dance, Ultimate Showdown will be held in the evening.
On January 20, tricycle operators and drivers will have their chance to bond during the TODA Night.
