‘Like coming home’ – Poe
GOING TO PANGASINAN
CALASIAO – Senator Grace Poe waxed nostalgic about going to Pangasinan, saying it was always like “coming home.”
This is because her late father movie actor Fernando Poe Jr., was from San Carlos City, then a Pangasinan town, and that he had plenty of relatives not only from San Carlos and also from adjoining towns.
She always feels the warm welcome accorded her whenever she comes to the province, she said.
Poe, the presidential frontrunner, was here on November 10 to attend the launching of a northern Luzon regional and provincial coordinators” conference composed of her supporters and campaign volunteers.
She also sworn into office the officers of the group at the Regency Hotel in this town which she said was meaningful for her because it was used by her father as campaign headquarters in 2004 when he ran for president.
Poe also visited flood-prone barangay Nalsian-Bacayao where she held a consultation meeting on their needs, and attended the graduation ceremony of University of Luzon where she was conferred a doctorate degree in public administration honoris causa.
Poe told her supporters that there three traits that a leaders should posses – intergrity, intelligence and energy.
“But among these three, the most important is integrity,” she said.
Poe cited these three traits after a businessman whom she did not identify, said aside from integrity, one should have loyalty and a firm resolve to stand and fight for ones belief without flip flopping.
“You need intelligence to come up with a solution after you hear problems that beset the people. You u need energy to go and listen to people to the different parts of the country because it is an archipelago. Nobody has the monopoly of truth in this country,” she said.
“But among the three, the most important is integrity. The most dangerous is when you have energy and inteligence but you don’t have integrity because you would use your energy and intelligence for illegal activities,” she said in Filipino.
Her statement seemed to be a broadside to presidential rival Vice President Jejomar Binay who is enmeshed in corruption charges. Binay in the latest survey commissioned by big business groups is trailing Poe by four points.
