Former Bayambang Mayor de Vera survives shooting
A former mayor of Bayambang survived a shooting in the early morning of September 17in front of his house in Poblacion, Bayambang.
Former Mayor Leocadio de Vera,62, sustained a gunshot wounds on his left shoulder and on his left arm.
De Vera immediately docked when the gunman started shooting, Sr. Supt. Rollie Saltat, provincial police officer in charge, said.
De Vera was talking with a security guard of a bank in front of his house at 4:55 in the morning when the gunman wearing a black jacket with a hood appeared from the back of a parked vehicle and fired at him four times.
De Vera docked and fired back twice, prompting the gunman to run toward unknown direction.
Sr. Supt. Rollie Saltat, provincial police officer in charge, said six slugs were found at the scene.
Since De Vera fired twice, the unidentified gunman could have fired four times, Saltat said.
The four slugs were of still undetermined caliber.
De Vera was rushed to the hospital in Dagupan City for treatment. He is in stable condition.
De Vera used to walk around his yard and the road in front of his house every morning.
The former mayor has received death threats through text messages.
