LINGAYEN – The chief of the 2nd Provincial Engineering District denies the claim that the huge drainage system constructed before was no match to the flood whenever there is heavy downpour.
District Engineer Rodolfo Dion said every time the high tide at the egress in Pantal River subsides, flood in Dagupan City disappears.
The drainage system and elevation of major highways in the city were funded under the development fund of fourth district Rep. Gina de Venecia .
“Hindi naman stagnant ang tubig. Pag nag low tide nawawala. Wala problem kung talagang
continuous iyong ulan malakas. Hindi naman kaagad malaki ang effect,” Dion said.
Dion cited the dredging at the mouth of the Pantal River, operated by the national office of the
DPWH, also mitigates flooding in the city.
Dion said DPWH for 2015 has P1.2 billion projects in the 2nd and 4th Congressional Districts of Pangasinan.
The bulk of these funds, he cited, go to the construction of the shoulders of highways.
He said the concreting of the shoulders of highway near the boundary of Calasiao town cost the government P10 million.
The other project is the raising of the road going to Malued, he said.
He said the DPWH regional office was concreting the shoulders of AB Fernandez East Street in Dagupan City.
