DAGUPAN CITY- The chief of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG) said the shortage of shabu in Pangasinan is caused by three factors: big time drug pushers were already arrested, drug pushers and dealers want to increase the street price per kilogram, and the illegal drugs are being hoarded.

Police Superintendent Benjamin Ariola said the Philippine National Police (PNP) will continue to support the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in curbing if not totally eliminating, the proliferation of illegal drugs in Pangasinan.

“The Pangasinan police will do its part to solve the problem on illegal drugs in order to maintain peace and order situation in the province,” he said.

Ariola said that 5 grams of shabu cost P15,000 but it’s street level price ranges from P6,000 to P8,000, which are the bases of the PNP’s computation of the amount of the illegal drugs once the pushers and dealers are nabbed in buy-bust operations.

“Our main problem during buy bust operations is the lack of money. We have limited funds of our maintenance and operating expenses (MOE), that’s why what we have confiscated are mostly in sachets,” he said.

He lauded the provincial government in its serious campaign against illegal drugs but said they have problems with some judges of courts in securing ” search warrants.”
