DAGUPAN CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) here said it is ready for the implementation of the K to 12 basic education program to provide better education to all Dagupeños.
Ma. Linda Ventenilla, chief education supervisor of DepEd-Dagupan, said nearly all teachers from the five public secondary schools and 34 elementary schools in Dagupan City have undergone training according to K to 12 curriculum contents and standards.
Ventenilla said the program will provide students who are unable to continue their studies in college with additional skills and knowledge to prepare them for employment and excel in a competitive labor market after their senior high school.
“We conducted a survey with students and employers in Dagupan for us to be able to match the courses to offer to the students with the applicants’ job qualifications that the employers are willing to hire,” Ventenilla said during the ‘Pantongtongan Tayo’ radio program of Philippine Information Agency-Pangasinan aired over DZMQ Radyo ng Bayan on Tuesday.
Ventenilla said technology livelihood education courses to be offered for senior high schools in this city are as follows: general education curriculum, accountancy, computer hardware servicing, business management, fish processing, and science engineering technology and mathematics.

She disclosed that if the student finished his or her senior high school course and passed the exam given by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), he or she will be qualified to earn a national certificate.
Noting that the Philippines is one of the three countries without senior high school curriculum, Ventenilla called on all Filipinos to support the DepEd’s campaign to improve the country’s educational system and make every Filipino student globally competitive and job ready. (PIA-1, Pangasinan)
