ASINGAN- More than 400 beneficiaries, mostly students, received financial assistance – educational, burial and medical – from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The assistance was distributed last July 11 at the gymnasium here.
The financial assistance was made possible through the request of Abono Partylist Rep. Conrad M. Estrella III from the said agency through its anti-poverty alleviation program.
” You are very lucky to be recipients of these assistances from President Aquino. He wanted to help you overcome your hardships and in return I ask that you will use the money given to you wisely. To the students, you have to study hard and thank God for all these blessings. Use the financial assistance to buy your school needs,” Estrella told the student-beneficiaries.

Estrella also said the funds were not from the controversial priority development assistance fund (PDAF) or pork barrel or from the development acceleration program (DAP).

Mayor Heidee Ganigan-Chua expressed her thanks to Estrella for interceding in behalf of the municipality in getting the assistance from the DSWD.

“Thank you for your kind-heartedness that you have been always thinking for the welfare of the people of Asingan,” Mayor Chua said.

Joining Estrella during the distribution of financial assistance were former 5th District Rep. Mark O. Cojuangco, Abono Partylist Chair Rosendo O. So and 6th District Board Member Ranjit Ramos Shahani.

Shahani praised Estrella for his efforts in coordinating with the DSWD officials for bringing the financial assistance in the municipality.

“Conrad, my good friend, has consistently been helping us here in Asingan and the whole 6th District. He has done a lot in the development of the district,” Shahani said whose sister Lila is an assistant secretary of DSWD.

So informed the audience and the municipal officials here that the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., to which he is a member, will be donating two-classroom building in the town.

On the other hand, Cojuangco urged the beneficiaries to use the assistance to what they were intended for even as he lauded the efforts of Estrella in coordinating the said assistance to be given to the indigent-beneficiaries of the town.

“I am offering myself as your alternative candidate for governor in Pangasinan in 2016. I urge you to please support me when that day comes in order that I will implement my vision for our province,” Cojuangco said.

The event was also attended by Vice Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr. and members of the Sangguniang Bayan.
