DPWH hosts dialogue on traffic situation

ROSALES–The call to a unified action on the traffic situation along the Manila North Road from Carmen, Rosales to Sison, Pangasinan was discussed during a coordination meeting held here.
The Pangasinan portion of the Manila North Roads connects Tarlac to La Union.
Pangasinan 3rd District Engineering Office Engineer Emmanuel Diaz hosted the coordination meeting which took the form of consultation-dialogue on the traffic management along the Manila North Road in connection with the road construction activities and the coming All Saints Day holidays.
Diaz said they expect heavy traffic for the coming November holidays hence the need for a coordination meeting.
The participants were representatives from the Philippine National Police, China International Water and Electric Corporation, the project engineers, project manager, water districts, DPWH Region 1 and staff from the office of Pangasinan 5th District Rep. Kimi Cojuangco. (more…)

Village polls prevent dismantling of 12 fishpens – Belen

DAGUPAN CITY – The barangay elections prevented the dismantling of the 12 remaining fish pens in the rivers of this city, but  Mayor Belen Fernandez  assured that the remaining pens would be removed  to finally clear the rivers of all illegal structures after the election.
Illegal fishpens proliferated during the local elections in May, with the city agriculture office counting at least 205. Owners of 58 structures claimed that  their operations were legal, saying their areas used to be land but were eaten by the rivers.
Fernandez gave the operators to remove their pens  on August 30, but the deadline was extended to September 30 because of the weather disturbances like typhoon and habagat (southwest monsoon) that prohibited the owners and city workers to dismantle the pens. (more…)

CALASIAO– Policemen arrested one of the alleged gunmen who shot a village chief and two of his body guards as they were buying fruits at the town’s public market.
Arnulfo E. Calaunan, a United States citizen, was found by a team of SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) of Dagupan City hiding on a wet grassy area at the back of Sta. Barbara Mayor Carlito Zaplan’s house in Barangay Gabon .
Calaunan, 48, and a native Barangay Talibaew, was found clad in a white bullet vest and wielded a 45 caliber handgun with two spare loaded magazines. Police said he and his group shot Longos Barangay Chairman Majadiva Mesina and two of his body guards.
Mesina, who was shot at the right side of his body, was rushed to the Villaflor Hospital in Dagupan City. One of his body guards who were with him as he was buying fruits near the puto (white cake) stall here was hit in the head that resulted in his instant death. (more…)
