Abono’s corn program benefits ‘small’ corn farmers

ROSALES – Tenant-farmer Loreta Mencias, 55, used to go to traders whenever corn planting is about to start.
She would take a loan in terms of inputs, for which she would pay an interest of 5-6 percent monthly come harvest time.
Mencias, from Barangobong village of Villasis town, was therefore elated when she was identified as a beneficiary of the Pangasinan corn production program which aims to help ease the financial burden of the farmers.
Under the program which started in 2011, they are able to avail of interest-free loans for their capitalization needs for the cropping season.
The Abono Party-list group has allocated a total of P15 million from its Priority Development Assistance Fund for the project. The same amount was allocated by the provincial government, while the Department of Agriculture (DA) and municipal agriculture officers provide technical assistance to the farmers. (more…)

EDITORIAL: PDAF -free growth


“For all the sins committed in the implementation of PDAF, the errant and the corrupt must be punished,” Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza said.

But he pointed that scholars and sick indigents are not a party to any corruption.

“We appeal in behalf of the scholars and indigent recipients of medical aide, they were not a party to any misuse and they are not a party to any corruption…Please give them the benefit of the doubt,” Jardeleza said. (more…)

CORTEZ: ‘Napoles’ sa Customs


brando-masoKung may Napoles sa Congress at Senado, may ‘Napoles ‘din di umano sa Supreme Court.

Alam niyo po ba na may parang ‘Napoles’ din sa Bureau of Customs na isang private individual na nagfa-facilitate ng releases ng mga container vans na walang kaukulang papeles sa mga pier sa buong bansa?

May muntik na naman na makalusot na smuggled na bigas sa pamamagitan ng pier sa Davao pero nasabat ito.

Ohaaa, ayon sa SINAG, ang nasabat na smuggled na bigas ay ipinapasok sana sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng intercession ng alyas ‘Napoles sa Customs.’

Nasa gitna ng tumitinding hagupit ng globalisasyon ang agrikultura ng Pilipinas at sa problema ng smuggling ay Iniluwal ang isang nationwide formation na tinatawag na SINAG.

Champion ng agrikultura ang SINAG na isang sentro ng mga stakeholders sa iba’t-ibang sector sa agrikultura na ay nais ay isang masaganag buhay para sa magsasakang Pilipino.

Huwag niyo maliitin, dahil ang SINAG ay isang sentro na tunay ang malasakit sa mga pamilyang umaasa sa agrikultura at kumikilos para manataling buhay ang industriya ng agrikultura sa Pilipinas.

Intindihin natin na ang SINAG ay tumitindig sa pangangailangan na ang bigas, mais, karne, isda, gulay at mga rekado ay dapat na nagmumula sa mga lupain at karagatan ng Pilipinas.

Eh, ang food sovereignty ng bansa ang ipinaglalaban dito. Hindi dapat iasa ang produksiyon ng pagkain sa ibang bansa. (more…)

Puregold’s special recruitment hires 149


SAN FERNANDO CITY – For Brigitte Calejo, 28, and Grace Galuz, 24, they are just so happy they never have to stay away from home to earn a living for their family.
Years ago, they endured long distances between work and home – the first having worked in Manila, while the latter, in Baguio City.
That’s not all they have to share. The two both joined the Special Recruitment Activity on September 9-13 jointly conducted by the Puregold Price Club, Inc., Public Employment Services Office of the City of San Fernando, La Union and the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office 1.
Brigitte and Grace were among the 1,393 job applicants who trooped to the recruitment activity, and were among the 149 applicants who successfully landed in jobs offered by the Puregold for its La Union branch. (more…)

Ilocano group supports ‘Sa Villasis, Malinis’

VILLASIS-The cleanliness campaign of Mayor Libradita Go-Abrenica has been intensified when the United Ilocandia Civic Action Group (UI-CAG), Villasis Chapter donated 20 units of trash cans to be placed in strategic areas of the business center.
“ I welcome your assistance and acknowledge your donation. I hope more organizations will do the same to help in the development of our town. You are our partners in the town’s development,” said Mayor Abrenica during the simple turn over in front the municipal hall last October 7.
Abrenica further lauded the officers and members of the UI-CAG for coming up a noble project supporting her environmental protection advocacy.
“ Who will help in improving our town if not ourselves?” she asked.
Speaking in behalf of the organization, UI national adviser Amante “Boying” Reyes explained that the civic action activities of the organization are a departure from the bad impression for “fraternities and sororities” organizations. (more…)

Abono intensifies corn production

SAN CARLOS CITY- The sixth distribution of corn seeds and fertilizers for the corn production program in Pangasinan was done at the Arenas-Resuello Sports Complex in this city last October 9.
The distribution was attended by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim Jr. and Abono Partylist Chair Rosendo O. So.
The said officials were welcomed by City Vice Mayor Joseres “Bogs” Resuello who thanked the Abono Partylist and Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. for continuing the corn production program.
“ Because of the program, our city has garnered a national award as “Best in the Quality of Corn Grains-City Category” this year. We hope to accomplish more for the next corn cropping season,” Vice Mayor Resuello said. (more…)

MAGANES: Smart Telecom’s poor service


vir maganesShe’s fuming madly uttering unprintables. She could not contain already her emotions because of sudden cut off of her Smart Broadband and Wi-Fi services. The said services are her means of communicating with her children who are working overseas- one in London, England and another in Bahrain.
Mely Perez of Villasis rushed to the office of Smart Telecom inside SM City Rosales. She complained to the desk officer about the sudden cut off of her broadband and wi-fi services when she has been payin her bills on time. With the receipts on hand as proofs of payments, the desk officer or clerk just gave her a look as if the complaint was not worth attending to. To her consternation, she was ordered to pay the sum of P9,000 for the plan of a tablet which has nothing to do with the broadband and wi-fi services. (more…)

So turns over scholarship fund to Villasis school

VILLASIS- Committed to the educational needs of students and pupils so they can continue their studies despite of poverty, Engineer Rosendo O. So , Chair of Abono Partylist, businessman and philanthropist, turned over a check amounting to P178,464 to Principal Analiza S. Mones of Tombod Integrated School (TIS) here last October 10 .
The said amount will be used for the contributions of the 414 pupils and students to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines, Philippine Anti-TB, Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) and some Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) contributions. It also includes the cost of books for the 51 kindergarten pupils. (more…)
