DepEd asked to clarify school issue in Bayambang

By Yolanda Sotelo

BAYAMBANG — School officials, teachers and parents of students of the Bayambang I Central School asked the Department of Education to clarify if the transfer of the 100-year old campus to a new campus in another village, was legal and official.
This, after a regional court judge issued an order restraining the officials from defying the implementation of an order from the municipal mayor directing the immediate transfer of all students, teachers and personnel of the school to the new campus.
In an order dated October 7, 2013, RTC 56 Presiding Judge Hermogenes Fernandez issued the TRO against DepEd Pangasinan Schools Division I Supt. Alma Ruby Torio and school principal Danilo Lopez and personnel under him, saying “unless restrained, their acts would probably work injustice and prejudice to the students.”
Lopez said classes were transferred to the new campus on October 8, but some parents refused to send their children to the new campus and are holding a sit-down rally at the old campus. They are also cleaning the school premises of overgrown weeds. (more…)

EDITORIAL : Raise tobacco for development

The government passed the sin tax law on cigarettes to generate more income and discourage the people from smoking cigarettes.

Pangasinan is a tobacco producing province and the country uses 150 million kilos for cigarette manufacturing but the country produced only 65 million kilos in 2012.

Tobacco producing provinces like Pangasinan benefit from the excise tax on tobacco as the national government collected P31.506 billion in 2010; P25.504 billion in 2011; and P32.181 billion in 2012.

Since higher benefits from the tobacco excise tax are dependent on higher tobacco production, there is a need to give tobacco farmers better incentives to continue planting.

Does planting tobacco pay better than planting other crops? (more…)

Biruin mo P50 billion per day pala ang cost trade diyan ayon sa Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry!

(more…)
