MAGANES: Our teachers, our heroes

Image

It’s the day for teachers. It’s the day for the unsung heroes of our time. It’s a day for them to be remembered and nurtured. It was Teacher’s Day last October 5- a day to celebrate and a day to give tributes to our teachers- those who already departed this world,  those still with us and the teachers of tomorrow.
How and when Teacher’s Day  was conceived  dates back in 1915. Wikipedia has this to say: “In many countries, Teachers’ Days (or Teachers Day) are intended to be special days for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general. The date on which Teachers’ day is celebrated varies from country to country. Teachers’ days are distinct from World Teachers’ Day which is officially celebrated across the world on October 5. Villasis’ palay dryer and warehouse in full operation

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes
VILLASIS- The palay drying facilities and warehouse here is already in full operation after traders and farmers took advantage of the low cost of drying during this rainy season.
As of this writing ,  a total of 97 tons of wet palay have been mechanically dried, of which 70 tons are owned by traders and 27 tons by local farmers through the Villasis Municipal Employees Multipurpose Cooperative  (VMEMPC).
“ The operations of the palay dryer and warehouse is just in time for the harvest season. This is our assistance to traders and farmers for them to have quality dried palay to command a higher price in the market,” said Mayor Dita Abrenica.
Municipal Agriculturist Cornelio Atchuela said the cost of drying was pegged at P1.50 per kilo for traders and P1.00 per kilo for the farmers who will avail of the services of the facilities.
“ This is of great help to us traders. We are no longer drying our wet palay on road pavements and solar dryers,” said Freddie Cabanela, one of the  town’s four palay traders who availed of the palay drying facilities.
The other palay traders are Daniela Meiz, Allan Subido and Jaime Blanco. (more…)
