SAN FERNANDO CITY– Land Transportation Office Ilocos Regional Chief Teofilo E. Guadiz III arrested a group of men pretending to be LTO enforcers while attempting to obtain money under duress from a group of jeepney drivers in San Fernando City, La Union.

This happened last September 26 at around 3:00 in the afternoon while Guadiz was patrolling the streets of San Fernando City. His attention was called when several persons in LTO uniform were demanding money from a group of jeepney operators.

Guadiz quickly alighted from the patrol car and swiftly confronted the bogus men-in-uniform. Sensing the intent of the phony LTO enforcers to run away, Guadiz grabbed one of them by the neck, pin him down the ground, and disarmed him with his gun before he was able to scamper away.

One of the bogus law enforcers was identified as Marino Soriano Jr., a native of Paniqui, Tarlac. Based on investigations, he is the son of a retired LTO district head in Tarlac. He was turned-over to the San Fernando Police Station immediately by LTO Chief Guadiz.

Soriano is currently detained at the SF City Jail and is charged of robbery and usurpation of a person in authority. The bail for robbery is one hundred thousand pesos while that of usurpation of a person in authority is ten thousand pesos.

Guadiz stressed that this will serve as a warning to all phony LTO enforcers. “They will not escape the long arm of the law. Moreover, for as long as I am in-charge of the region these phony law enforcers will never last long in the streets,” Guadiz said.
