DAGUPAN CITY—Street children in this city will enjoy being a normal part of the society as the city government plans to give them ample opportunities to take part in fiestas and other special events.

Marge L. Navata, head of the Task Force for the Protection and Prevention of the Street Vulnerable, said
street children will be tapped to perform special numbers during the city’s special events, including the City Fiesta and the Bangus Festival.

“Children’s exposure to such events enhances their talents as well as enhance their social behavior,” she said in an interview last Wednesday.

Navata disclosed further that the plan is a revival of the thrust to protect street children which began during the administration of former Mayor Alipio F. Fernandez Jr. from 2007 to 2010.

She pointed out that the city had been able to send children back to school as well as to compete in national performance arts contests.

“One child who was once under the city’s care is now performing as a regular member of the Dagupan City National High School, while another one is an honor student at the same school,” she said.

Street children’s participation to the city’s events will begin during the Children’s Month in October.

“Hopefully, we can bring more children back to society through this plan,” she stressed. (CIO/08152103)
