DAGUPAN CITY—Mayor Belen T. Fernandez declared that zero corruption and quality public service will be observed in the city government under her watch.
Fernandez made the statement in a recent meeting with heads of different departments and offices to determine their individual concerns, performance and accomplishments.
The City Engineer’s Office pointed out during the meeting that it is intending to install traffic lights, closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV), and signage to improve traffic safety.
The office is also planning to conduct a clean-up drive activity on several creeks in barangays Mayombo, Tapuac, Caranglaan, Lucao and Pogo Grande.
Meanwhile, the City Librarian Rufina Meneses announced the launching of its mobile library to give better educational opportunities for children in remote areas of the city.
Fernandez has been rounding up the different departments and offices since her assumption as acting-mayor last May 17, when then Mayor Benjamin Lim was hospitalized.
The regular meeting brought to light the existence of ghost employees in the city government.
The discovery of the scam prompted Fernandez to thoroughly check the list of emergency workers, some of whom are believed to be ghost employees.
Stressing the cooperation of the government employees, Fernandez said, “Teamwork is an essential aspect of quality public service.”
The mayor said she is determined to make the city stand out in the country in terms of transparency and quality public service. (CIO/073113)
