VILLASIS- More than 500 young swains benefitted from the two-day free “Operation Tuli” (circumcision) from April 20 to April 21 at the public auditorium here, which was sponsored by the local government unit (LGU), Ladies Brigade of Villasis (LaB) and the Sigma Beta Tau Phi Fraternity and Sorority, known as Titans of the Faulty of Medicine and Surgeon of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST).

“This is now on its 10th year of implementation. Operation Tuli is our response to the needs of young males to be circumcised, not only because of its cultural and religious implications, but for hygienic purposes. We thanked the volunteers from Titans as well as our local medical team including the Barangay Health Workers for assisting us in this project,” Mayor Dita Go-Abrenica said.

Abrenica said the municipal government shouldered the costs of an anesthesia, syringes and other medical needs of the project while the LaB shouldered the lodging and accommodation of the medical team’s volunteers.

She further said the “Operation Tuli” has 20-25 male-beneficiaries from each of the 21 villages of the town who were pre-registered by the LaB to avail of the services.

“ This is a big help to us parents. The cost of circumcision in private clinics ranges from P500 to P700. With this Operation Tuli, the said amount is considered a saving for us parents,” said Helen Bulatao of Tombod village here whose son has benefitted from the project.

“ I am now a man. Hindi na ako bibiruin na ‘supot’ (uncircumcised) ng aking mga kaibigan,” said Mark Allen Javien, 13, of Amamperez village.

Aside from “Operation Tuli” ,free ophthalmologic service or eye check up was conducted by Dr. Ricky Aranzamendez, an ophthalmologist from the Titans.

The volunteers are: Dr. Linda Abrenica, Dr. Proceso Surell, Dr. Enoch Mariano Canlas Cruz, Dr. Ariel Sandoval, Dr. Jovette Vitug, Dr. Marvin Lu, Dr. Ralph Balan, Dr. RJ Ramirez, Dr. EJ Edroso, Dr. Jenny Abrenica-Aranzamendez, Dr. Jared Tan, Dr. Raffy Malilay, Dr. Carl Agcaoile, Dr. Sean Verallo, Dr. Joshua Nocum, Dr. Romulo Lua (head surgeon) and Dr. Oliver Taganas ( head of the Titans).

The local medical team was headed by municipal health officer Hian Kiat Dy, municipal dentist Rosalina Sana-Locquiao, Josue Abrenica (nurse), Alex Vila (nurse) and Rosie Sales (sanitarian).
