Pista’y Dayat stages first triathlon challenge

LINGAYEN—The Pistay Dayat 2013 continues to excite revelers and beach goers as it brings another surprise with the staging of the first ever invitational triathlon challenge to be held at the Capitol Beachfront on April 30 starting at 5 in the morning.
Rommel Cardinoza, co-chair for the committee on triathlon challenge said the activity which involves the events of swimming, bike and run will be graced by swimmers, bikers and runners from Baguio City, La Union, Metro Manila and parts of Central Luzon.
Cardinoza said the project also seeks to provide opportunity for Pangasinan to showcase its competence and capability as an alternative venue for such sports activities which are usually held in Subic, Zambales, Camarines Sur and Cebu.
Starting with a short program at 5:30am at the Capitol Beacfront, the triathlon challenge which include some 130 tri-athletes kicks off with the 750-meter swimming event at 6am at the Lingayen Beach.
The 30 km bikers will follow the route from the beachfront to Kalantiaw-Lingayen town proper-Labrador Hiway crossing-Magtaking Bugallon-Socony crossing-Bugallon Bridge-crossing-PNB-Maramba Blvd.-Malong back to the beachfront while the 5km runners will negotiate the roads from the beachfront to Kalantiao-Alvear Street-Castillo Street, Avenida Rizal St.-PNB-Maramba Boulevard-Malong and back to beachfront.
As this developed, Modesto Operana, chair for the said event has asked the organizers to secure the safety of the tri-athletes participating in said sports activities.
On the other hand, Cardinoza said the safety of participants has been assured as they have tapped the services of experts to assist during the conduct of the triathlon.
The Triathlon Association of the Philippines will provide assistance and the Provincial Health Office will also field a medical team with the DeltaCom assisting in the traffic management.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, Water Search and Rescue team and personnel from the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coastguard will also be fielded to provide assistance. (PIO)
