Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. asked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to conduct a proper and thorough investigation of a sketchy report of an alleged explosion in the yard of a mayoralty candidate in the town of Bugallon at past midnight today.

The incident was reported on TV by the police.

According to media there were splinters on the door, no crater on the ground and nobody was hurt.

Investigators were yet to determine if the explosion was caused by a firecracker, a home-made explosive, dynamite or a grenade.
Espino, a retired police regional commander before he became a politician, said that a proper and thorough investigation is necessary. Police findings must likewise be reported with accuracy to the public to clear the air of any speculations.

Espino pointed out that Pangasinan has been known as a peaceful province with insignificant track record of political violence.
“I don’t want anybody to use unverified information to magnify insignificant events and create a distorted picture of the peace and order situation in the province,” Espino stressed.

A non-partisan investigation of the explosion will be the first decisive step to keep it that way, he said.
