‘Team PNoy’ invades Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY- With no less than President Aquino as the prime endorser, senatorial candidates under the coalition of Team PNoy visited this vote rich-province to get the support of 1.6 million voters for the May 13 polls last March 15.
President Aquino opened the emergency center of R1 Medical Center before proceeding to the CSI Stadia where thousands of Liberal Party leaders and supporters convened.
At the Stadia, President Aquino endorsed his senatorial candidates whom he referred to as his allies for the “Tuwid na Landas.”

ORTIGOZA: Liberal Party raises fund through rice smuggling?

According to the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce U.S $20 billion or P800 billion is lost in the Philippines every year because of the unabated spate of smuggling of all kinds of goods.
U.S $6 billion or P240 billion of this is on rice smuggling.
Consequently, Filipino farmers mull not to sow their crop next planting season because rice millers and traders stoped buying the staple at P17 a kilo. (more…)

Rosario hits Sales and Amador on tarp war

MANAOAG – A mayoralty bet here bemoaned the scandalous tarpaulin wars waged by Mayor Napoleon Sales and Vice Mayor Kim Amador with each other.

Mayoralty candidate Jeremy Agerico Rosario said the actuation of the duo leaves a bad taste in the mouth with the people seeing them out staging each other on the number of self serving tarpaulins.
Rosario said each of them crowed to the public to get credits for the government projects implemented here in the past.
“Kanya-kanyang pa pogi kanya kanyang tarpaulin, nag aaway na sila sa tarpaulin blaming the other side of getting credits to ones projects, etc. Pero at the end of the day lahat po iyan pag-aari ng gobierno” Rosario said. (more…)

Another BIR official killed in Pangasinan

URDANETA CITY, Pangasinan – Another official of the Bureau of Internal Revenue has been waylaid by assassins in a span of three months in the province of Pangasinan.

At 7:30 pm of March 4, Jose R. Labonete, 46, chief of assessment division of the Revenue District Office-6 was opening the gate of his apartment at City Homes Subdivision in Barangay Nancayasan in this city when a gunman with a companion peppered him with four fatal shots.

MAGANES: Graduation woes!


virTwo weeks after this column comes out, all elementary and secondary schools in the Pinoylandia will be holding their commencement exercises. In short, the graduation ceremonies will signal the end of a school year to the pupils and students- that after 193 days in classrooms they have hurdled their academic requirements and other extra-curricular activities.
While graduation is supposed to be the happiest moment of every graduate, some schools are marred by controversies like complaints that they are soliciting graduation fees. Parents are in the frontline in filing complaints against the school administration for allowing the contributions for graduation ceremonies.
As a follower of pronouncements of the Department of Education (DepEd), graduation programs and ceremonies should at least be simple and without a cost to parents. But what is simplicity as defined? Graduating students and pupils should not wear togas but their school uniforms to receive their diplomas. There should not be pompous ceremonies and attendance of politicians especially now that we are in the election campaign period. So be it! The DepEd order is highly commendable but is far from reality. (more…)
