VILLASIS- Now on its 8th year, the Talong Festival took the center stage last January 18, which featured ” pinakbet sa kawa”, street dancing competition and 101 ways to cook talong (eggplant) and mosaic art competition.

Aired and broadcast at dawn over ABS-CBN’s ” Manang kay Ganda”, the Talong Festival was attended by local residents, expatriates (balikbayan) and local tourists.

They were one in saying that yearly they are looking forward to attend the festival, which has gained popularity not only in the country but also in other countries.

Manny Manantan , an expatriate from California, USA, said he always takes his vacation annually in time for the celebration of the fiesta and to participate in the pageantry of the Talong Festival.

” The town’s fiesta is no longer complete without the Talong Festival. We Villasinians living abroad see to it that we take our vacation during our town fiesta,” Manantan said.

Mayor Dita Go Abrenica extended her thanks and gratitude to all sponsors, patrons and the local residents for their support to the 5-day town fiesta celebration.

“Thank you for your support and generosity. This year’s fiesta celebration is not possible without your unending support, ” Abrenica said.

The mosaic art competition was won by the Lipay Elementary School while the street dancing was taken by the Don Ramon E. Costales Memorial National High School (DRECMNHS).

Meanwhile, Senator Loren Legarda, 5th District Rep. Kimi S. Cojuangco, Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim Jr. and Board Member Amadeo T. Espino graced the Barangay Night last January 15 that opened the 5-day fiesta celebration.

Cojuangco informed the Villasinians on her accomplishments as representative of 5th District in the House of Representatives notably the passage into law of the controversial Reproductive Heart (RH ) Bill or Republic Act No. 10354.

“I could not afford to see poor wonen without them given the chance to plan their family.Under the RH Law, couples could now plan the size of their families and have access to family planning methods. It was a hard decision for me to support the bill and we had a talk with Archbishop Jack Jose of the Archdiocese of Urdaneta City. I told him that I have my commitment with the 5th District’s constituents,” Cojuangco said.

Senator Legarda, on the other hand, cited her assistance to the corn growers in Pangasinan including her Bill on the benefits and welfare of the Pangasinenses. She also expressed her gratitude to the Pangasinenses on their support during past elections and requested for support in May 2013 polls.

Legarda is running as senator under the coalition of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and Liberal Party.
